THE FIRST AFRICAN AMERICANS TO SERVE IN THE U.S. MARINE CORPS
Welcome to Los Angeles, Chapter 8 of the National Montford Point Marine Association (NMPMA) Inc.
We are a charitable non-profit 501 (c)(3) veteran service organization, established to perpetuate the legacy of the first African Americans who entered the United States Marine Corps from 1942 to 1949, at Montford Point Camp, New River, North Carolina. Membership in both Los Angeles Chapter 8 and the National Association is open to honorably discharged and retired veterans, and active-duty members of the United States Armed Forces, regardless of race, creed, and national origin. We are committed to improving the social conditions of our veterans, local families, youth, and the growing population of senior citizens.
We serve our veterans and our community in many different ways, especially by improving the social conditions for them, and maintaining the legacy of the Montford Point Marines. But this isn’t all we do — we also support our community with education through scholarship and helping the next generation. Throughout the year, the Association is busy with activities that create camaraderie, and give back to the community, both locally and nationally. The activities vary depending on the urgency of need in that given time. Our association also visits various other organizations and veteran support agencies, as well as delivers food and much-needed items to people in need and shut-in during times of distress.
You are invited to get involved and become a part of our growing community. We are committed to helping our veterans by improving the social conditions for them; however, we also support local families, youth and the growing population of senior citizens. We truly care about those around us who are struggling and need our help.
Join us — your time and energy could improve the lives of others in need.
